Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ¾ cups (330g) all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
- ½ cup (120ml) warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
- ¼ cup (60g) sweetened condensed milk (plus extra for brushing)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 large egg
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- ½ tsp salt
- Optional: Extra sweetened condensed milk for brushing after baking
- Optional: Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, add flour, salt, sweetened condensed milk, egg, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Add the softened butter and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic—about 8–10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a stand mixer.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and shape into a loaf or rolls. Place in a greased loaf pan or baking dish.
- Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes, until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Optional: While still warm, brush the top with a little extra sweetened condensed milk for a shiny, sweet finish.
- Let the bread cool for at least 10–15 minutes before slicing. Enjoy warm or at room temp!
Notes
Try adding chocolate chips, raisins, or shredded coconut to the dough for a twist. You can also use plant-based alternatives for a dairy-free version, though texture may vary slightly.
