Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk (warm)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup cream cheese (softened)
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- (Optional) 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper or chopped jalapeños
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until bubbly but not browned.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly, to form a smooth paste.
- Slowly pour in the warm milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue to stir until the mixture thickens slightly (about 2–3 minutes).
- Lower the heat and add the shredded cheddar and cream cheese. Stir until completely melted and silky smooth.
- Mix in the garlic powder, onion powder, and any optional spices. Taste and adjust with salt and pepper as needed.
- Pour into a serving bowl and enjoy immediately with chips, bread, or veggie sticks!
Notes
For extra flavor, try using smoked cheeses or stirring in crispy bacon bits. Warm milk and freshly shredded cheese make the dip extra smooth.
